It's Official: NEA Now Has a Contingent Caucus

Back when I first came on board as AFT-ACC president in 2018, a number of caucus members asked me about what was going on with NEA, and at the time, though I was a local adjunct rep with an NEA/CTA chapter, had only just gotten started in looking into the statewide scene in California. I had heard of there being an NEA Contingent Caucus headed by Judy Olson, but when CFA (which represents CSU faculty) disaffiliated from NEA/CTA, the caucus effectively disappeared.
Today I received word that the NEA Contingent Caucus has been resurrected:
Dear Caucus Chair,
Congratulations! You caucus has been recognized by the National Education Association for the 2026 term . . .
We look forward to working with you in the upcoming term. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff liaison to the NEA caucuses, Megan Respol, at mrespol@nea.org.
Sincerely,
Sabrina Tines-Morris
Senior Director, Center for Governance
National Education Association
I will be writing more about this in future posts. I do want to say that my work with AFT Adjunct/Contingent Caucus greatly helped in facilitating the kind of national-level discussions and coalition building to get this done. It couldn't have happened without what I've learned and the support I've received.
There is of course much work to be done, but I'm very much looking forward to it.
Geoff Johnson
AFT Adjunct/Contingent Caucus President
